TikTok Shop Taxes for Affiliates: A 2026 Guide for Creators
If you earn commissions promoting products on TikTok Shop as a creator based in Spain, that income counts as self-employed business income from euro one: it must be declared quarterly on form 130 and in your annual tax return, and if the activity is regular, you must register as a freelancer (autónomo). That's the short answer. The rest is detail worth knowing before the tax office catches you off guard.
Why this already affects thousands of creators
Spain has become one of the markets where affiliate sales carry the most weight inside TikTok Shop, and you don't need millions of followers to make a living from it: accounts with barely 40,000 followers out-earn others with five million, because what drives income is video output, not audience size.
That means more and more Instagram and TikTok creators — many managed by agencies — are combining traditional brand deals with affiliate commissions, and need to understand how each income stream is taxed separately.
How much do you actually earn?
Affiliate commission usually ranges from 8% to 20% of the sale value, depending on the product. That percentage applies to the sales volume generated through your tagged links or videos, not to what you ultimately keep. Payment isn't instant either: it's confirmed only once the sale clears the return window, which in practice means waiting 15 to 30 days after purchase. If the buyer returns the product, the commission is automatically reversed.
Do I need to register as self-employed?
It depends on how regularly you carry out the activity. Spanish courts use the minimum wage (around €1,200/month in 2026) as a benchmark: if your affiliate income approaches or exceeds that figure on a recurring basis, registration is mandatory. If it's occasional and low-value, the line is blurrier, but don't wait too long — digital platforms, including TikTok, report data to the Spanish tax agency under DAC7 rules once certain transaction or income thresholds are crossed.
Automatic invoicing since July 2026
Since 21 July 2026, TikTok Shop has issued affiliate commission invoices automatically through Fonoa, its tax invoicing provider. Each invoice is addressed to the relevant seller and applies VAT depending on that seller's location: 21% if the seller is in Spain, reverse charge if the seller is elsewhere in the EU, and no Spanish VAT if the seller operates outside the EU.
For personal income tax, these commissions are treated like any other self-employed business income: TikTok pays gross, with no withholding, so paying the tax is entirely on you, through the quarterly form 130 and the annual return.
Don't confuse it with running your own TikTok Shop
Being an affiliate (earning commission for promoting) and being a seller (running your own TikTok Shop store) are two different activities with different tax treatment. Sellers must charge Spanish VAT from their very first sale and register immediately; affiliates follow the regularity test described above. If you combine several income streams — brand deals, affiliate commissions and your own sales — knowing exactly which form applies to each saves plenty of headaches. How to simplify the management
With several income sources running at once — brands, TikTok Shop, other platforms — manually tracking what you earned, when, and under which VAT rules gets messy fast. Centralising campaigns, payments and invoicing in a single tool helps you keep every income stream in view quarter after quarter, something agencies managing several creators at once particularly value.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need an invoice to declare TikTok Shop commissions? Yes. Since July 2026, Fonoa automatically issues an invoice for each commission on your behalf. Keep it as proof of income for both VAT and income tax purposes.
Does TikTok withhold income tax before paying me? No. TikTok pays commissions gross, with no withholding at all. You're responsible for paying the corresponding tax yourself through the quarterly form 130.
What happens if the buyer returns the product? The commission is automatically reversed if the sale is returned within the allowed window. That's why payment is only confirmed after the return window closes, 15 to 30 days after purchase.
Is being an affiliate the same as running your own TikTok Shop store? No. Affiliates earn commission for promoting other sellers' products; sellers run their own store and must charge VAT from their first sale. They're two activities with different tax obligations.
